  • Center Stone Shape: Old Mine Cut, faceted by hand over 150 years ago
  • Center Stone Color: G-H
  • Center Stone Clarity: VS2-SI1, with no perceptible inclusions to the naked eye
  • Center Stone Notes: The carat weights are calculated by the historic formula for old cuts, which account for and reflect the chunkier faceting ratios of antique stones. Modern formulas, and/or estimating carat weight by a diamond's diameter facing up, inherently render inaccurate carat weights of Old Mine and Old European cuts, as both methods are intended for and reflective of contemporary faceting styles only. For reference, these diamonds both face up the size of a modern 0.07 ct Modern Round Brilliant diamond. However, formulaic calculations determine that they are a bit higher in carat weight because they are taller and broader in their matrixes.

The Story:

Exquisitely dainty, this stick pin dates to the threshold of the mid Victorian and the the late Victorian years. It features a lovely pairing of Old Mine Cut diamonds, bright white in color and utterly vivid in brilliance. These diamonds were both hand-cut, hand-faceted and hand-polished well over a century and a half ago, their presence collapsing time between the contemporary wearer and the jeweler who originally crafted the pin to life.

The duo of gems is arranged in the bypass style within connected prong baskets, both encircled with five claw prongs. Such a two-stone design is also referred to as “Toi et Moi”, wherein a pair of stones is enswirled at an angle to bolster their ‘embracing’ effect. This style was first introduced when Napoleon Bonaparte proposed to Josephine de Beauharnais in 1796. Theirs was a rather scandalous engagement, remembered most for the undeniable inseparable passion the couple shared.

Just like the pairing of gems, the French phrase “Toi et Moi” translates to ‘you and me’, a proud symbol of unity and partnered hearts. In suit, diamonds are believed to represent purity, earnest affection and enduring love. This antique pin is a wearable love letter of sorts, an antique reminder that the wearer is both desired and beloved. Though simple and small, this brooch is equally timeless, radiant and lively.

Regarding All Purchases: All additional 'prop' jewelry boxes, ring boxes, or any other jewelry items pictured alongside the featured listing are for photographic and display purposes only and are not included in the transaction unless explicitly noted in the listing description and/or title. Your order will be carefully packed within a branded Revival Fine Jewelry gift box and will ship in a discreet outer shipping parcel.

Regarding Sale Purchases: Items purchased while on sale and/or sold at specially discounted rates negotiated and agreed upon by Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated consumer are considered final sale. Sale and discounted items are nonreturnable, nonrefundable and ineligible for layaway.

Regarding Brooches & Pins: Often significantly and curiously undervalued jewelry items, brooches, pins and stick pins are treasured pieces of history in this shop. Accordingly, their pricing is calculated analogous to other fine jewelry, including their symbolic meaning, rarity and historical prestige. Such pieces are typically converted to other forms of jewelry, and are therefore becoming increasingly rare in their original states. Aside from being perfectly wearable as sophisticated lapel ornaments, brooches and pins of all kinds are prime candidates for many kinds of fine jewelry conversions, including rings, earrings, pendants, and charms, if so desired by the consumer post-purchase. Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.

Regarding Storage & Boxes: All specifications, including but not limited to the measurements, age, origins, and material compositions are supplied in good faith as professional estimations constructed using professional grade tools, years of learned and honed skills, educational resources and academic scholarship, and refined research methods. Regardless of our confidence in our descriptions and the photographs deemed viable extensions of these descriptions, we cannot guarantee the definitiveness, faultlessness, or exactitude beyond our knowledge and expertise. Kindly keep in mind that this and all items are sold as-is vintage, antique and estate secondhand wares, and consequently bear conditional wear in matter and operation commensurate with age and use.

Layaway is available for full priced, non-sale items priced $600.00 USD or greater, and items may not be combined to attain price-eligibility. Plans are offered as 3-month/90-day maximum terms.

In the event that a layaway installment is left unpaid for seven (7) days and no communication is received from the designated customer, the layaway plan will be presumed abandoned. While the item will be returned to public sale, all payments made hitherto are still considered final.
