General Information:

  • US Size: Right between a 5.50 and a 5.75 (the band is ever so slightly out of round (ovalar) but comfortably fits both and is resizable within reason by your preferred jeweler if necessary)
  • Total Carat Weight: 0.45 ctw
  • Precious Metal Weight: Approximately 1.0 dwt
  • Precious Metal Material: Testing at 66.5% purity, which technically is 16k; trade standardization puts this amount at 14k gold.
  • Dimensions: 2.98 mm north to south; ~2.66 mm rise from the finger (depth) at the highest point on the face (central ruby); shoulders taper from ~2.79 mm at the end of the ruby row to 1.70 mm at the base of the shank
  • Weight: A comfortably lightweight 1.53 grams
  • Markings: A very, very worn maker’s mark is present but now illegible
  • Era: Stylistically, this band reflects the aesthetic of the late Edwardian period (c. 1910s) as well as the early Art Deco period (c. 1920s), comfortably dating it to about 1920. Even though we suggest these findings from our years of honed expertise, identification techniques and extensive professional research, it must be noted that without knowing an exact provenance, we cannot conclusively determine this piece’s exact timeline or its precise origins.
  • Buyer Notes: This ring is delicate, wholly lovely and feminine, and is a relic of a golden period in history. It is something of a rarity, with no exact comparables on the market at the time of this listing. It does show commensurate wear, which is to be expected of a jewel affectionately worn for over 100 years. These characteristics are pictured, described, and noted, and the pricing reflects their presence. These can be improved or restored by your jeweler post-purchase if the imperfection is not a quality you cherish in antique jewelry.

The Story:

Crafted by hand sometime between the late Edwardian period through the early Art Deco years, this channel band shows characteristics of both eras, embodying the sweet elegance of the 1910s as well as the strong geometries of the 1920s. The face of the band features a stretch of seven square faceted natural rubies, each one showcasing the hand-faceted craftsmanship that predates the perfection of machine-cut gems. When viewed in profile, the rubies charmingly show varying crown and table heights, while both side-faces of the band boast hand-engraved geometricized florals within an arched cartouche contiguous with the arch of the band.

The rubies are of natural origins and are not lab-created as many of the corundums were during this period. Instead, these are of the earth, exhibiting extremely subtle striations of pink tones upon 90x or higher magnification. These variances are not visible to the naked eye, yet exist as a very quiet reminder of Mother Nature. These are set within a scalloped milgrain channel, where no prongs are present to visually separate the stones, which produces a vivid expanse of saturated pink across the finger.

Indeed, this ring shows ample affectionate wear from age and use, manifesting as chips and abrasions to the rubies, some polishing away of the milgrain and one area of loss to the lip of the channel. These imperfections are pictured, some visible to the unmagnified eye and others visible only under intense and focused magnification under a jeweler’s loupe. And yet, these characteristics somehow make the band all the more enchanting, and do not detract from its sophisticated beauty.

As is true with all antique jewels, this ring has a hidden message of love’s endurance. The engraving on both sides of the ring majestically frame the rubies, and carry a secret meaning. These engravings depict the bursting blooms and cyma swirls of the Acanthus plant. Acanthus leaves represent the idea of eternalism, as they are known and beloved for their ability to thrive in graceful immortality even within the harshest conditions, withstanding beating winds, rains and sun. Acanthus plants have been used as a symbol of such fortitude for thousands of years, and are recognizable on ancient Greek and Roman column capitals, in Georgian and Victorian mourning and sentimental jewelry, and even on tombstones and the like. Their deeper meaning of amaranthine devotion is as relevant to loss as it is to the fidelity of partnership within marriage.

Items do not come with physical documentation, appraisals, or certifications, unless explicitly stated in the item description and/or title. Sale Terms: Sale prices are only valid within the prescribed sale window, unless otherwise stated by Revival Fine Jewelry or agreed upon between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer. To maintain business sustainability and general fairness, individual customers are not entitled to exclusive notification of, or owed access to, store sales antecedently. Orders processed prior to a promotion or sale, items placed on layaway prior to a sale, and payments paid through layaway prior to a sale will not be retroactively adjusted to reflect sale pricing or terms.

Specially Negotiated Deals: Items purchased at specially negotiated discounts, deals or prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer are considered final sale, including rates arranged and agreed upon via Facebook, Instagram, email or any other method. Closing deals at special rates reflects a desire by both parties to reach an expeditious and absolute sale. The intention of specially negotiated discounts, deals or sale prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer, is to eliminate extra expenses and/or use of time and resources to formally list or re-list items per their specific and inherent value-determining qualities, as well as avoid unseen overhead business costs, stocking obligations, and all other disclosed or undisclosed monetary and nonmonetary expenditures.

Pricing: Revival Fine Jewelry reserves the right to decrease, increase, alter and modify inventory pricing to meet market rarity, demand or value; to offset platform, transaction or seller's fees; to adapt to economic inflation and fluctuation; and to defray specific business expenses. Pricing is the sole discretion of every small business.

Regarding Brooches & Pins: Often significantly and curiously undervalued jewelry items, brooches, pins and stick pins are treasured pieces of history in this shop. Accordingly, their pricing is calculated analogous to other fine jewelry, including their symbolic meaning, rarity and historical prestige. Such pieces are typically converted to other forms of jewelry, and are therefore becoming increasingly rare in their original states. Aside from being perfectly wearable as sophisticated lapel ornaments, brooches and pins of all kinds are prime candidates for many kinds of fine jewelry conversions, including rings, earrings, pendants, and charms, if so desired by the consumer post-purchase. Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.

Regarding Storage & Boxes: All specifications, including but not limited to the measurements, age, origins, and material compositions are supplied in good faith as professional estimations constructed using professional grade tools, years of learned and honed skills, educational resources and academic scholarship, and refined research methods. Regardless of our confidence in our descriptions and the photographs deemed viable extensions of these descriptions, we cannot guarantee the definitiveness, faultlessness, or exactitude beyond our knowledge and expertise. Kindly keep in mind that this and all items are sold as-is vintage, antique and estate secondhand wares, and consequently bear conditional wear in matter and operation commensurate with age and use.

More information on these, and more, topics may be found in the shop policies.

All layaway terms may be found here, and all shop policies may be found here.

Layaway is available for full priced, non-sale items priced $600.00 USD or greater, and items may not be combined to attain price-eligibility. Plans are offered as 3-month/90-day maximum terms.

In exchange for offering interest-free plans, customers agree to abide and uphold the following nonnegotiable terms and conditions:

  • A 30% deposit is due upfront to reserve the item for layaway and pull it from public sale on all of our shopping platforms. Shipping expenses are added to this first payment unless otherwise requested.
  • The remaining 70% balance is divided up into three subsequent monthly payments due on the same day of the following three months. If delinquent, a $20.00 USD late fee is added per day to an overdue payment until paid.
  • In the event that a layaway installment is left unpaid for seven (7) days and no communication is received from the designated customer, the layaway plan will be presumed abandoned. While the item will be returned to public sale, all payments made hitherto are still considered final.

Layaway items are promptly boxed and shipped to the designated customer once the final payment successfully processes.
