  • Precious Metal Weight: 2.01 dwt
  • Precious Metal Material: 14k Rosy Yellow Gold

  • Buyer Notes: The opals are great candidates for repurposing, perhaps as polished down to clean cuts or as opal fragments within a floating opal jewel. If this ring were in perfect condition without chipping to the opals, the market comparable price would be around $1965. However, this ring is not in perfect condition, so due to the worn nature of these opals, the price has been set to reflect the value of this ring if it were a semi-mount (classified as a ring less its center stones). As such, the pricing is calculated primarily on the value and high quality of the iconically Edwardian 14k warm gold prong mount as well as the high quality Old Mine cut diamonds.

The Story:

A lovely early 20th century jewel, this ring features an array of opals and diamonds mounted in a claw prong mounting, a classic c.1900 style. The central stones are magnificent opals, with a base body color of rich sky blue and a color play that is insanely vibrant, consisting of greens, chartreuses, violets, lavenders, light pink and magenta, as well as oranges and salmons. When viewed back-lit, the stones glow the most lambent warm orange from deep within their core.

Though wildly beautiful, these opals show the effects of over a century of loving wear and are each chipped near their prongs. Given the opals’ chromatic dispositions and its dalliance of light, these chips are largely camouflage at first glance by the naked eye. However, their presence means that these already fragile stones are made even more delicate. As such, the ring’s state ought to be kept in mind when considering for wear, and may mean a professional interchange of center stones is imminent.

This ring is extremely lovely, and is of notably high quality. Unfortunately, the primary opal stones have been heavily worn and show chipping that is more substantial than commensurate wear with age. However, this is not altogether unusual for opals, as opals are about a 5.5 of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, so they are quite prone to scratching and abrasions and chipping. Their delicate nature is both what we so love about the gems, and what makes them so fragile.

The trilogy of opals present have probably been enjoyed for extended periods with little mindfulness of their true fragility. And yet, their chipping is not nearly as visible to the naked eye as such characteristics would be on any other gemstone; because of opals’ unique coloration and play of color, the chips are surprisingly camouflaged to the eye without magnification. This piece may certainly be worn as-is until the need arises for replacement stones, or it may be purchased with the intention of immediate replacement of the opals. Because of this wear, the opals exhibit a soft rattle when agitated.

The rich opals are dotted with four phenomenal Old Mine cut diamonds, whose cushion shapes and sizable culets catch the light and refract rainbows around the opals. These diamonds vary in their cut, as they were each originally faceted and polished by the hand of an artisan, and thus, proudly wear their singularity of manufacture. Together, the diamonds and opals are a majestic show; the effect of the pairing of gems is captivating, a show of color that is unmatched, and a quality that is nothing short of memorable. A finishing touch, the sultry claw prongs grip the stones in dramatic order, a smart cue of the ring’s heirloom age and quality.

Sale Terms: Sale prices are only valid within the prescribed sale window, unless otherwise stated by Revival Fine Jewelry or agreed upon between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer. To maintain business sustainability and general fairness, individual customers are not entitled to exclusive notification of, or owed access to, store sales antecedently. Orders processed prior to a promotion or sale, items placed on layaway prior to a sale, and payments paid through layaway prior to a sale will not be retroactively adjusted to reflect sale pricing or terms.

Specially Negotiated Deals: Items purchased at specially negotiated discounts, deals or prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer are considered final sale, including rates arranged and agreed upon via Facebook, Instagram, email or any other method. Closing deals at special rates reflects a desire by both parties to reach an expeditious and absolute sale. The intention of specially negotiated discounts, deals or sale prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer, is to eliminate extra expenses and/or use of time and resources to formally list or re-list items per their specific and inherent value-determining qualities, as well as avoid unseen overhead business costs, stocking obligations, and all other disclosed or undisclosed monetary and nonmonetary expenditures.

Pricing: Revival Fine Jewelry reserves the right to decrease, increase, alter and modify inventory pricing to meet market rarity, demand or value; to offset platform, transaction or seller's fees; to adapt to economic inflation and fluctuation; and to defray specific business expenses. Pricing is the sole discretion of every small business.

Regarding Brooches & Pins: Often significantly and curiously undervalued jewelry items, brooches, pins and stick pins are treasured pieces of history in this shop. Accordingly, their pricing is calculated analogous to other fine jewelry, including their symbolic meaning, rarity and historical prestige. Such pieces are typically converted to other forms of jewelry, and are therefore becoming increasingly rare in their original states. Aside from being perfectly wearable as sophisticated lapel ornaments, brooches and pins of all kinds are prime candidates for many kinds of fine jewelry conversions, including rings, earrings, pendants, and charms, if so desired by the consumer post-purchase. Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.

Regarding Storage & Boxes: All specifications, including but not limited to the measurements, age, origins, and material compositions are supplied in good faith as professional estimations constructed using professional grade tools, years of learned and honed skills, educational resources and academic scholarship, and refined research methods. Regardless of our confidence in our descriptions and the photographs deemed viable extensions of these descriptions, we cannot guarantee the definitiveness, faultlessness, or exactitude beyond our knowledge and expertise. Kindly keep in mind that this and all items are sold as-is vintage, antique and estate secondhand wares, and consequently bear conditional wear in matter and operation commensurate with age and use.
