- Buyer Notes: This ring boasts a long lost artistic talent of hairwork. Such designs were common as both sentimental gestures and tokens of grief. Lovers would exchange hairwork jewels with one another, both men and women, though hairwork was also produced from the hair of a deceased loved one for reverent remembrance. This ring is highly detailed, an elaborate example of the skill of its original maker. It shows no areas of significant wear, a rarity amongst such fragile historic jewels, though the ends of some hair can be felt when one traces the braids with the finger, indicating the presence of very, very slight fretting. As such, the next caretaker of the ring should keep this condition in mind and maintain its integrity as best as possible. In suit, be sure to avoid contact with water of any kind and be mindful to prevent any harsh abrasions to the ring’s surface or the hairwork.
Hailing from the late Georgian years, this c. 1800 ring is a talisman of affection, crafted in a tradition that withstood hundreds of years though is no longer thriving today. A series of extraordinarily delicate braids are wrapped and inset within a chased gold mounting, with north and south golden lips that confine the hairwork in place, and theoretically, keep it protected from direct contact with the world when worn. The braids are quite fine, very small, and a relic of a lost art, and are perfectly complemented by the swirling engravings that decorate the gold borders. These are ornate and undulating, a textural element in harmony with the richness of the hair within.
The face of the ring shows two foliate details that are raised above the shank in graceful fashion, seemingly in motion: two acanthus leaves sweep past each other in the ‘bypass’ style, also an allusion to two interconnected souls. Between them a third golden foliate hovers, where it is possible a monogram or year inscription once existed. Today, this central feature is plain and polished, with dainty chasing peeking through its mostly buffed appearance.
Acanthus leaves have been used in stone and metalwork for thousands of years, as they are symbolic for enduring life, rebirth and healing. For thousands of years and across continents and cultures, such a motif has been associated with both death and romance, as both are deeply sensitizing experiences that last a lifetime and eternally affect the heart. In a similar essence, the chasing is billowing and looping, resembling the vastness of the seas and the complexity of affection.

Specially Negotiated Deals: Items purchased at specially negotiated discounts, deals or prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer are considered final sale, including rates arranged and agreed upon via Facebook, Instagram, email or any other method. Closing deals at special rates reflects a desire by both parties to reach an expeditious and absolute sale. The intention of specially negotiated discounts, deals or sale prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer, is to eliminate extra expenses and/or use of time and resources to formally list or re-list items per their specific and inherent value-determining qualities, as well as avoid unseen overhead business costs, stocking obligations, and all other disclosed or undisclosed monetary and nonmonetary expenditures.
Pricing: Revival Fine Jewelry reserves the right to decrease, increase, alter and modify inventory pricing to meet market rarity, demand or value; to offset platform, transaction or seller's fees; to adapt to economic inflation and fluctuation; and to defray specific business expenses. Pricing is the sole discretion of every small business.
Regarding Brooches & Pins: Often significantly and curiously undervalued jewelry items, brooches, pins and stick pins are treasured pieces of history in this shop. Accordingly, their pricing is calculated analogous to other fine jewelry, including their symbolic meaning, rarity and historical prestige. Such pieces are typically converted to other forms of jewelry, and are therefore becoming increasingly rare in their original states. Aside from being perfectly wearable as sophisticated lapel ornaments, brooches and pins of all kinds are prime candidates for many kinds of fine jewelry conversions, including rings, earrings, pendants, and charms, if so desired by the consumer post-purchase. Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.
Regarding Storage & Boxes: All specifications, including but not limited to the measurements, age, origins, and material compositions are supplied in good faith as professional estimations constructed using professional grade tools, years of learned and honed skills, educational resources and academic scholarship, and refined research methods. Regardless of our confidence in our descriptions and the photographs deemed viable extensions of these descriptions, we cannot guarantee the definitiveness, faultlessness, or exactitude beyond our knowledge and expertise. Kindly keep in mind that this and all items are sold as-is vintage, antique and estate secondhand wares, and consequently bear conditional wear in matter and operation commensurate with age and use.
