General Information:

  • Precious Metal Weight: Approx. 2.51 dwt
  • Precious Metal Material: 14k Gold (all components and findings); octahedrons & cuboctahedrons appear to be a rosy yellow gold, while the pierced middle components and screw backs appear to be a buttery yellow gold (this variance is not so noticeable while earrings are worn, and is most apparent to the trained eye)
  • Dimensions: Each earring is 22 mm long (north to south) x 8.2 mm wide (east to west) x 8 mm deep (front to back, not including the screw backs); only about a 4 mm drop from the bottom of the earlobe, as only the lower halves of the cuboctahedrons actually extend beyond the lobe.
  • Weight: 3.90 grams together
  • Markings: 14 - KT (on both open loops of the screw back earring settings)
  • Era: Body of earrings match pieces in E.V. Roddin catalogues from 1888.
  • Buyer Notes: This pair of earrings is truly one of a kind, and seems to be from a stylistically transitional period between the end of the Victorian years and progressively looking forward to the earliest years of the Art Deco era. As such, they encapsulate both aesthetics beautifully and seamlessly. These were created for non-pierced earlobes, but may be worn on pierced ears just as comfortably. These earrings are entirely gold and very lightweight. Though hollow on the shapes’ interiors, these have been spared any dents and dings that typically are found on hollow gold forms. Some facet junctions and surfaces show some darker gold patina; this antique patina on gold is much desired amongst collectors, so we have opted not to polish off this characteristic. However, the patina may be polished off post-purchase if so desired by the buyer. These earrings may be easily converted to have pierced hooks or posts if that is preferred, though the shop will not convert the pair on our end prior to purchase and shipment.

The Story:

Crafted entirely of 14k gold, this intricate pair of earrings date to the late Edwardian, early Art Deco period. Yet, even after nearly a century of loving wear, they feel minimalist and modern, all at once exuding vintage charm and contemporary cool. These earrings boast a striking geometric design, where octahedron shapes (base to base pyramids) and snub cubes (cuboctahedrons) are connected by a pierced “wirework” style component.

The top octahedrons and bottom cuboctahedrons appear to be ever so slightly rosier in color than the pierced component that bridges them, or the screw backs behind them-- these are both buttery yellow gold by comparison. This variance in antique gold colorations is not noticeable except upon close inspection, and may be evidence that these pieces were married together to create the earrings as we see them today. If a marriage did occur, it would have taken place long ago in the pair’s history, and has been completed with great skill and precision.

No detail is spared on this pair, as both screw backs are decorated with a delicate daisy pattern so that the earrings impress from all angles. As well, the open loops that hug the wearer’s earlobes are both stamped with “14-KT” indicating the gold purity used to fabricate the pair. Although made with screw backs for non-pierced ears, this pair is very comfortable to wear on both pierced and non-pierced lobes alike. They are light as a feather, and while they are considered ‘drop’ earrings, they do not dangle. Rather, the posts and drops are stationary and expertly soldered in place, so as to eliminate movement and tugging while wearing.

With an air of elegance that was so beloved of the late Victorian period, and a nod to the arresting geometries and symmetry for which the Edwardian years and the Jazz Age are known, this pair is as wearable today as they ever were.

By placing an order, you accept and agree to uphold Revival Fine Jewelry's terms, conditions and policies.

Regarding All Purchases: All additional 'prop' jewelry boxes, ring boxes, or any other jewelry items pictured alongside the featured listing are for photographic and display purposes only and are not included in the transaction unless explicitly noted in the listing description and/or title. Your order will be carefully packed within a branded Revival Fine Jewelry gift box and will ship in a discreet outer shipping parcel.

Regarding Sale Purchases: Items purchased while on sale and/or sold at specially discounted rates negotiated and agreed upon by Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated consumer are considered final sale. Sale and discounted items are nonreturnable, nonrefundable and ineligible for layaway.

Regarding Brooches & Pins: Often significantly and curiously undervalued jewelry items, brooches, pins and stick pins are treasured pieces of history in this shop. Accordingly, their pricing is calculated analogous to other fine jewelry, including their symbolic meaning, rarity and historical prestige. Such pieces are typically converted to other forms of jewelry, and are therefore becoming increasingly rare in their original states. Aside from being perfectly wearable as sophisticated lapel ornaments, brooches and pins of all kinds are prime candidates for many kinds of fine jewelry conversions, including rings, earrings, pendants, and charms, if so desired by the consumer post-purchase. Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.

Regarding Storage & Boxes: All specifications, including but not limited to the measurements, age, origins, and material compositions are supplied in good faith as professional estimations constructed using professional grade tools, years of learned and honed skills, educational resources and academic scholarship, and refined research methods. Regardless of our confidence in our descriptions and the photographs deemed viable extensions of these descriptions, we cannot guarantee the definitiveness, faultlessness, or exactitude beyond our knowledge and expertise. Kindly keep in mind that this and all items are sold as-is vintage, antique and estate secondhand wares, and consequently bear conditional wear in matter and operation commensurate with age and use.

Layaway is available for full priced, non-sale items priced $600.00 USD or greater, and items may not be combined to attain price-eligibility. Plans are offered as 3-month/90-day maximum terms.

In exchange for offering interest-free plans, customers agree to abide and uphold the following nonnegotiable terms and conditions:

• A 30% non-refundable deposit is due upfront to reserve the item for layaway and pull it from public sale on all of our shopping platforms. Shipping expenses are added to this first payment unless otherwise requested.

• The remaining 70% balance is divided up into three subsequent monthly payments due on the same day of the following three months. If deliquent, a $20.00 USD late fee is added per day to an overdue payment until paid.

In the event that a layaway installment is left unpaid for seven (7) days and no communication is received from the designated customer, the layaway plan will be presumed abandoned. While the item will be returned to public sale, all payments made hitherto are still considered final.

Layaway items are promptly boxed and shipped to the designated customer once the final payment successfully processes. Taxes, import and other legal fees are not calculated into the payments, and are the sole responsibility of the customer, whether a domestic US or international buyer.
