The Story:
Exquisitely made by the hand of master artisans during the late 1920s or 1930s, this solitaire ring boasts an intricate Art Deco design. According to a jeweler’s assessment for this ring, the ring is in very good condition, and centers a natural Fancy Yellow diamond of incredible VVS2-VS1 clarity. The color and clarity of this stone are only enhanced by the Old European cut faceting, which shows a characteristically taller diamond with chunkier facets within and an ‘open’ culet at its center-- all of which cause light to burst in and through the stone and refract in bright golden flashes. Old Euros are beloved for these aspects, and are particularly dazzling on clearer diamond gemstones such as this one.
This center stone sits within a four corner pronged mount that cups the stone at right angles to give a squared impression, a stylistic preference very popular toward the end of the 1920s and throughout the 1930s, also informing later 1940s designs. The castellated mount is left smooth and unadorned on its four side profiles, a visual breather to balance the rest of the ring’s august ornamentation. The shoulders of this ring are symmetrical, both sides composed of a single five-petaled flower with a stem and trio of leaves that are both the body of the ring and bridge the shoulders to the shank. These blooms and leaves have been carefully etched by hand with linear engravings, which subtly catch the light and allude to the light and shadow of three dimensional fauna.
The base of the stems on both sides give way to a very classically Deco pattern consisting of alternating milgrain lines and engraved petaled flower faces. This pattern nearly rounds the band, but a section of the very base (back) of the band has been strategically left plainer so as to allow for easy sizing and design reconstructing, should sizing become necessary. Most rings of this age have been sized at some point in their history, meaning that these ‘sizing sections’ are typically utilized (either eliminated to make a ring smaller or expanded to make a ring larger). Because this ring’s so-called ‘sizing section’ is still intact, we can safely deduce that this ring has likely not ever been altered for sizing purposes in its nearly 100 years of life.
Apart from being beautiful to behold, the details of this ring tell us a bit about its history and meaning. Though used for some time before it was patented around 1921, white gold became a top choice for jewelry of the Deco period, as its bright white appearance offset the brightness of diamonds and gemstones more luminously than yellow gold, and was a more economical alternative to platinum alloys. This ring is of a relatively high carat purity of white gold, and is mounted with an extraordinarily distinguished diamond, so from these compositional attributes, we know that its manufacturer very high end, greatly skilled and discerning, indeed.

Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.
