General Information:

  • US Size: 6.00
  • Total Carat Weight: 1.51 ct
  • Precious Metal Weight: 1.36 dwt
  • Precious Metal Material: 10k rosy yellow gold; the historic alloy for 10 karat gold includes a level of copper that contemporary alloy does not, thus causing antique 10k gold to appear warmer, rosier and closer to pink gold than today's gold of the same ~41.7% purity. Antique 10k gold is desired precisely for this tonality that simply cannot be replicated by today's processes.
  • Dimensions: This ring faces up 8 mm north to south (width). The band tapers from about 3 mm at the shoulders (just past the center setting) to about 1.72 mm at its thinnest width at the base of the shank. The ring rises roughly 7.27 mm from the finger.
  • Weight: 2.12 grams
  • Markings: One side of the inside of the shank is stamped with the unidentified maker's mark of "SA", while the opposite interior side is stamped with the purity mark of "10K".
  • Era: This ring is believed to date to sometime between the late Victorian years of the 19th century to the first decade of the 20th century (sometime between the 1890s-1910). In the late 1880s, Tiffany & Co. introduced and first patented this style mounting, which raised the featured gemstone or diamond above the shank within claw prongs so as to allow maximum light to pass through and refract within the stone. The conditions for creating sapphires in labs was formally documented by about 1909. These details assist in dating this ring.
  • Buyer Notes: This ring is bright, vivid and colorful, and exists as a timeless Victorian staple piece. It is whimsical, collectible and affordable, altogether a desirable addition to any collection of antique jewels.

Specifications:

  • Center Stone Type: Sapphire (lab created, not to be confused with simulated-- please read below for more on this)
  • Center Stone Count: One (1)
  • Center Stone Carat Weight: 1.51 ct by formula using the dimensions supplied and per the specific gravity of sapphire
  • Center Stone Dimensions:  7.11 x 7.08 x 4.35 mm, as approximated and measured within mounting so as to preserve the ring's historic integrity
  • Center Stone Shape: Round Faceted Cut
  • Center Stone Color: Buttery, Rich Lemon Yellow (this color "shifts" in hue according to varying lighting conditions; in some lights, it is a cool yellow, in others a honey-colored, warm yellow
  • Center Stone Clarity: Translucent with no visible inclusions

The Story:

Being created in a lab well over a century ago, this sapphire embodies the outstanding feats of engineering of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as the innovation of created sapphires was officially established around 1909. It is important to understand that created gems are not simulants, as such stones are chemically identical to their natural counterparts, but are simply grown under ideal conditions within a lab. When first made, these lab sapphires were extremely expensive-- oftentimes commanding much higher prices than earth mined sapphires-- and were considered luxury goods, therefore making them highly desirable at the time.

This stone is a wildly vibrant color, exhibiting as bright yellow in all lights, but shifting in its hue depending on the conditions. In some lights, including sunlight, the stone is a cool lemony hue with an almost greenish-yellow undertone. In other lights, including overcast and low lights, the stone is a warmer honey hue, with an almost cognac undertone. Notably, under LED and natural light, this sapphire glitters and flashes beautifully. While this style ring is collectable on the market, the gem's scale amplifies its desirability, as it is quite sizable, and has impressive presence on the finger. Sapphires have an impressive hardness on the Mohs scale, in the neighborhood of 9 out of 10 (diamonds are rated as 10), which enables them to be excellent candidates for frequent wear and even engagement alternatives.

Like all gemstones, yellow sapphires are believed to boast metaphysical properties: yellow sapphires are thought to represent grace of divine strength and are believed to connect the wearer to heavenly wisdom. These stones are associated with the ability to attract lifelong wealth and love for the purpose of sharing both within the wearer's relationships. In this way, yellow sapphires are perceived as gems of great prosperity in all facets of life.

To maintain business sustainability and general fairness, individual customers are not entitled to exclusive notification of, or owed access to, store sales antecedently. Orders processed prior to a promotion or sale, items placed on layaway prior to a sale, and payments paid through layaway prior to a sale will not be retroactively adjusted to reflect sale pricing or terms.

Specially Negotiated Deals: Items purchased at specially negotiated discounts, deals or prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer are considered final sale, including rates arranged and agreed upon via Facebook, Instagram, email or any other method. Closing deals at special rates reflects a desire by both parties to reach an expeditious and absolute sale. The intention of specially negotiated discounts, deals or sale prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer, is to eliminate extra expenses and/or use of time and resources to formally list or re-list items per their specific and inherent value-determining qualities, as well as avoid unseen overhead business costs, stocking obligations, and all other disclosed or undisclosed monetary and nonmonetary expenditures.

Pricing: Revival Fine Jewelry reserves the right to decrease, increase, alter and modify inventory pricing to meet market rarity, demand or value; to offset platform, transaction or seller's fees; to adapt to economic inflation and fluctuation; and to defray specific business expenses. Pricing is the sole discretion of every small business.

Regarding Brooches & Pins: Often significantly and curiously undervalued jewelry items, brooches, pins and stick pins are treasured pieces of history in this shop. Accordingly, their pricing is calculated analogous to other fine jewelry, including their symbolic meaning, rarity and historical prestige. Such pieces are typically converted to other forms of jewelry, and are therefore becoming increasingly rare in their original states. Aside from being perfectly wearable as sophisticated lapel ornaments, brooches and pins of all kinds are prime candidates for many kinds of fine jewelry conversions, including rings, earrings, pendants, and charms, if so desired by the consumer post-purchase. Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.

Regarding Storage & Boxes: All specifications, including but not limited to the measurements, age, origins, and material compositions are supplied in good faith as professional estimations constructed using professional grade tools, years of learned and honed skills, educational resources and academic scholarship, and refined research methods. Regardless of our confidence in our descriptions and the photographs deemed viable extensions of these descriptions, we cannot guarantee the definitiveness, faultlessness, or exactitude beyond our knowledge and expertise. Kindly keep in mind that this and all items are sold as-is vintage, antique and estate secondhand wares, and consequently bear conditional wear in matter and operation commensurate with age and use.

More information on these, and more, topics may be found in the shop policies.

All layaway terms may be found here, and all shop policies may be found here.

Layaway is available for full priced, non-sale items priced $600.00 USD or greater, and items may not be combined to attain price-eligibility. Plans are offered as 3-month/90-day maximum terms.

In exchange for offering interest-free plans, customers agree to abide and uphold the following nonnegotiable terms and conditions:

  • A 30% deposit is due upfront to reserve the item for layaway and pull it from public sale on all of our shopping platforms. Shipping expenses are added to this first payment unless otherwise requested.
  • The remaining 70% balance is divided up into three subsequent monthly payments due on the same day of the following three months. If delinquent, a $20.00 USD late fee is added per day to an overdue payment until paid.
  • In the event that a layaway installment is left unpaid for seven (7) days and no communication is received from the designated customer, the layaway plan will be presumed abandoned. While the item will be returned to public sale, all payments made hitherto are still considered final.

Layaway items are promptly boxed and shipped to the designated customer once the final payment successfully processes. Taxes, import and other legal fees are not calculated into the payments, and are the sole responsibility of the customer, whether a domestic US or international buyer. Revival Fine Jewelry is not responsible for calculating, covering or adding such costs into purchase prices.
