General Information:

  • US Size: 8.25
  • Total Carat Weight: 0.328 ctw
  • Precious Metal Weight: 2.29 dwt
  • Precious Metal Material: 18k warm rose gold (this ring is a contemporary-made ring, so the rose gold alloy is rather vivid and bright orangey-pinkish in color, versus historic rose gold alloys that are deeper copper in color by comparison).
  • Dimensions: This ring faces up about 14.40 mm north to south and tapers to 2.28 mm at the base of the shank. The snake-head face rises about 4.85 mm from the finger, and tapers to a 0.80 mm rise from the finger at the base of the shank.
  • Weight: A nice 3.56 grams
  • Markings: This band is stamped with a French eagle's head mark on the rear-exterior of the shank as well as an unidentified and partially obscured maker's mark on the shank's interior.
  • Era: This ring is believed to be a more contemporary piece, likely made in the last decade or so, designed to recall the snake rings that were popular during the Victorian era.
  • Buyer Notes: While sold to the shop as a vintage piece, this ring's construction, styling, stone and gold content reveal that this ring is far newer. The twelve spinel stones present are likely lab created, given their colors, and are meant to mimic the saturated pigeon's blood red of ruby and pool-like sky blue of aquamarine. Together, these qualities create a ring that is modern, lively and fun, a colorful statement piece to contrast any look. This ring may not be a top quality, authentic antique piece, but it IS indeed made with real, rich gold and colorful gemstones. A perfect acquisition for the modern collector, this piece is whimsical and splashy, ready for its next caretaker and priced to sell!

    Specifications:

    • Center Stone Type: Sold to the shop as ruby, but tests as spinel
    • Center Stone Count: Six (6)
    • Center Stone Dimensions and Carat Weights:
      • Two (eyes) are about 1.7 mm = 0.012 ct each; 0.024 ctw together by formula per the specific gravity of spinel
      • Four (head) are about 2.3 x 2.5 mm on average = 0.035 ct each; 0.14 ctw altogether by formula per the specific gravity of spinel
    • Center Stone Shape: Round Faceted Cuts
    • Center Stone Color: Deeply saturated, intense pinkish-red to magenta
    • Center Stone Clarity: Semi-translucent
    • Center Stone Type: Diamond
    • Center Stone Count: Two (2)
    • Center Stone Dimensions and Carat Weights:
      • Two (eyes) are about 1.7 mm = 0.012 ct each; 0.024 ctw together by formula per the specific gravity of spinel
      • Four (head) are about 2.3 x 2.5 mm on average = 0.035 ct each; 0.14 ctw altogether by formula per the specific gravity of spinel
    • Center Stone Shape: Round Faceted Cuts
    • Center Stone Color:  Light sky blue
    • Center Stone Clarity:  Very semi-translucent
    • Center Stone Notes:  Please note that the pair of blue eyes appear a bit duller, muddier in hue, but also test as spinel. This is likely an optical illusion caused by light refracting off of the deep red color of the "head/spine" gems and back onto the paleness of the blue eyes.

    The Story:

Modern and bold with a hint of whimsy, this wrap-style ring features the beloved snake motif, one that has been a popular favorite for virtually thousands of years across many cultures and sentiments. Two grinning snake heads bypass one another to encircle the finger, their expressions bearing wide, gemmy eyes and pointed teeth. The effect is an unbroken and cyclic rhythm, wildly spirited and gleaming in rosy gold goodness.

The dual snake motif is one of the very oldest, and arguably one of the most famed designs in all of jewelry history, embraced as a signature of life's loves and losses, a symbol of infinity, as well as rebirth and new life. Paired snakes also illustrates a chosen union and the ebbs and flows that come with it, and scripturally, they evoke the tension between passions and desires of the flesh and the spiritual experience of higher consciousnesses. Contrary to more modern belief, snakes are not dark or foreboding imagery at all. In fact, even Prince Albert gifted Queen Victoria an emerald-studded snake engagement ring during the first half of the 19th century as promise of lifelong fidelity and devotion to her.

Of particular note, the snake's surface is encrusted with a spread of twelve glittering gemstones, their colors starkly contrasted between deep pink-red and light blue. The number twelve is, of course, deeply symbolic itself, representing holy balance of spiritual completeness. While this ring is not of refined, careful craftsmanship, it is a playful and cheeky contemporary cast-made nod to a historic fad. No doubt, this ring is sure to make a statement and enliven any jewelry stack.

Items do not come with physical documentation, appraisals, or certifications, unless explicitly stated in the item description and/or title. While jewelry is inspected upon procurement by the shop as well as prior to shipment, Revival Fine Jewelry cannot guarantee a warranty once items leave our inventory, given the delicate and individual nature of secondhand articles and the unaccountability of buyer handling post-purchase.

Sale Terms: Sale prices are only valid within the prescribed sale window, unless otherwise stated by Revival Fine Jewelry or agreed upon between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer. To maintain business sustainability and general fairness, individual customers are not entitled to exclusive notification of, or owed access to, store sales antecedently. Orders processed prior to a promotion or sale, items placed on layaway prior to a sale, and payments paid through layaway prior to a sale will not be retroactively adjusted to reflect sale pricing or terms.

Specially Negotiated Deals: Items purchased at specially negotiated discounts, deals or prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer are considered final sale, including rates arranged and agreed upon via Facebook, Instagram, email or any other method. Closing deals at special rates reflects a desire by both parties to reach an expeditious and absolute sale. The intention of specially negotiated discounts, deals or sale prices through any platform between Revival Fine Jewelry and a designated customer, is to eliminate extra expenses and/or use of time and resources to formally list or re-list items per their specific and inherent value-determining qualities, as well as avoid unseen overhead business costs, stocking obligations, and all other disclosed or undisclosed monetary and nonmonetary expenditures.

Pricing: Revival Fine Jewelry reserves the right to decrease, increase, alter and modify inventory pricing to meet market rarity, demand or value; to offset platform, transaction or seller's fees; to adapt to economic inflation and fluctuation; and to defray specific business expenses. Pricing is the sole discretion of every small business.

Regarding Brooches & Pins: Often significantly and curiously undervalued jewelry items, brooches, pins and stick pins are treasured pieces of history in this shop. Accordingly, their pricing is calculated analogous to other fine jewelry, including their symbolic meaning, rarity and historical prestige. Such pieces are typically converted to other forms of jewelry, and are therefore becoming increasingly rare in their original states. Aside from being perfectly wearable as sophisticated lapel ornaments, brooches and pins of all kinds are prime candidates for many kinds of fine jewelry conversions, including rings, earrings, pendants, and charms, if so desired by the consumer post-purchase. Revival Fine Jewelry does not perform conversion projects for customers.

Regarding Storage & Boxes: All specifications, including but not limited to the measurements, age, origins, and material compositions are supplied in good faith as professional estimations constructed using professional grade tools, years of learned and honed skills, educational resources and academic scholarship, and refined research methods. Regardless of our confidence in our descriptions and the photographs deemed viable extensions of these descriptions, we cannot guarantee the definitiveness, faultlessness, or exactitude beyond our knowledge and expertise. Kindly keep in mind that this and all items are sold as-is vintage, antique and estate secondhand wares, and consequently bear conditional wear in matter and operation commensurate with age and use.
